In our seas

The sea covers over 70 percent of the Earth’s surface. Let’s have a look in the seas which surround our island?

Gulls.

Herring Gull

  • large, noisy light grey backs

  • white under parts, and black wing tips with white patches.

  • PINK LEGS

  • heavy, slightly hooked bills marked with a red spot

Black headed gull

  • small

  • pale grey

  • dark brown head in summer

  • DARK REDDISH BROWN LEGS

Lesser black-back gull

  • dark grey to black back and wings,

  • yellow bill

  • YELLOW LEGS

Great black-back gulls

  • very large

  • thick-set black-backed

  • powerful beak

  • PINK LEGS

Kittiwake

  • medium-sized

  • small yellow bill and a dark eye

  • grey back with white underneath

  • SHORT BLACK LEGS

  • In flight the black wing-tips show no white, unlike other gulls

Common Gull

  • GREENISH LEGS

  • They nest in trees.

  • Can live until they are 24.

  • Yellow bill
